About Me
My name is Prakash Subbarao. I am from Bangalore and will be 57 years old in January 2009. I am the CEO of Spark Consultants, a consulting organization that is Bangalore (India) based.
Specifically, for
the minority who are interested in details, I am a Brahmin from the Babburkamme community, a community which is over 1200 years old.
I have been in the marketing stream since 1975, when I joined a British MNC
called Chloride India Limited in Calcutta as a Management Trainee. By age 35
I was a National sales manager of a company in the billion dollar Murugappa
Group in Chennai.
I am a mechanical engineer from UVCE (1974 batch). I have undergone short
term management training at Indian Institutes of Management Ahmadabad and
Bangalore (residential executive training programs).
I am a marketing and general management consultant and in addition have picked up
technical expertise on internet search areas such as “Search
Engine optimization” (SEO). I offer SEO consultancy to companies via Spark Consultants.
I have been running Spark Consultants (my own company) in Bangalore since 1988.
I took Spark Consultants to Dubai between 1998 and 2004, and was based there
during that period. I am now based in Bangalore, India.
Some interesting things that I have done in the past:
-
Shattered sales records in most of the companies where I worked. Was promoted from Regional Sales manager to All India Sales Manager in T.I. Diamond Chain Ltd. within 18 months of my joining the company because of tremendous sales growth that I got from my team; I superseded three other sales managers (two of whom were IIMs from Ahmedabad).
-
Started my own consulting company, Spark Consultants, in 1988. Ran
Bangalore’s first corporate bulletin board service (BBS) called SparkNet in pre-internet days with a dedicated
server and a dedicated telephone line.
-
Created an HRD magazine called Techno Spark that was, in its heydays, mailed free of cost to thousands of companies all
over South India. It supplied summarized résumés from A (Accountants) to B (Welders) to companies. It was something “different”. It opened very many
doors for me……….from Birla 3M to TVS Suzuki and many companies in between.
-
Developed Spark Consultants into Bangalore’s largest internet services
company during the period 1990 – 1998 and boasted a blue chip clientele.
-
Was invited to address the Indo-American Chamber Of Commerce, Bangalore,
India in 1996 as a specialist speaker on how to use the Internet to increase
business.
-
Created a 450 page portal on Dubai. Sold it recently
to a British real estate company in Dubai for a significant amount. Excited by this, I am
now working on a Dubai megaportal Gr8dubai.com. It has already crossed 500 pages and is scheduled to
launch some time in end 2008. It's still in Beta mode. It will undergo cosmetic and aesthetic design changes prior to release; what you see is the skeleton with tons of information!
-
Created The Bangalore Quiz
Group in September 2004. Today it is perhaps one of the largest and most
active groups in the country with the highest number of online / offline
quizzes being offered on a variety of subjects. It also has one of the largest quizzing databases in the world.
-
Am the Quiz Club Facilitator of the Bethany School Quiz Club. I enjoy teaching the little kids (2nd to 7th standard) and treat the time that I spend with them as my bit for a social cause.
-
