The Spark Consultants TeamAbout Us

Spark Consultants was set up in 1988.

It is a professional consulting organization in the IT industry.

Its CEO is Prakash Subbarao.

Prakash has over three decades of work experience with multinationals and reputed companies and has a very wide and varied experience in marketing and general management both in India as well as abroad. Details about his background are here.

After a meteoric career growth in companies such as Chloride India Ltd. and Vikrant Tyres Ltd., Prakash became the National Sales Manager of T.I. Diamond Chain Ltd., a company in the billion Dollar Murugappa group when he was just 34. Bitten by the business bug a few years later, Prakash decided to become an entrepreneur and set out on his own. This marked the birth of Spark Consultants in 1988 as a marketing services company focussing, initially, on marketing recruitments.

In 1990, Spark Consultants expanded its recruitment division to include all types of recruitments (alphabetically from Accountants to Welders). It added a Peenya office (a very interesting story lies behind this) and, in a bid to create its own advertising vehicle, created a publication known as Techno-Spark. Soon, Techno Spark, a monthly magazine, was being mailed out to over 8000 organizations all over South India. The magazine contained management articles as well as summarized resumes that Spark Consultants had sourced and indexed alphabetically (the latter aimed at saving companies time in the recruitment process).

With the advent of computers and fax modems in the late 1980s, Bulletin Board Services (BBS) became popular. Spark Consultants chose to keep pace with technology by setting up a BBS called SparkNet. (Read the SparkNet story here)

With the coming of the Internet to India in the early 1990s, most of Spark Consultants' member companies requested help in getting on the Internet and thus Spark Consultants was propelled into the Internet business. Soon, it became Bangalore's largest web hosting company and had many prestigious clients including multinationals, software companies, manufacturing companies etc.

Mr. Prakash Subbarao was an authority on how to use the Internet to do business and was invited to address the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce regarding this in 1996.

In 1998, Prakash decided to move to Dubai and expand Spark Consultants internationally.

Prakash was in Dubai between 1998 and 2004. During this process he was a consultant for various organizations. One of these was the Zenith Group and he conceptualized a children's project for them which he named the "Whiz Kid" project. It was this project that helped him create the foundation and launch the children's learning portal "The Seventh Sense" in India.

Spark Consultants, Dubai, also created a 500 page portal on Dubai that became the most authoritative reference source on Dubai. It was sold for a substantial amount to a British company in 2006. Spark Consultants is currently working on a 1,000+ page portal on Dubai. It is expected to be completed and launch in October 2011.

While in Dubai, Prakash also developed an interest in quizzing. This is another strange story which you can read here. This led to the set up of the Bangalore Quiz Group, possibly the most professional and fastest growing quiz groups in the country.

Back in India, Prakash addressed a growing need amongst companies - the need to rank high in the search engine results. This resulted in Spark Consultants developing expertise in Search Engine Optimisation.

Spark Consultants also realized that there was a profitable opportunity in creating manufacturing portals which would help small and medium scale industry improve advertising their products and services globally and enhance their professionalism. The first such portal was www.1Peenya.com. Other portals that are currently being developed are www.1Jayanagar.com and www.1Koramangala.com.
